Neurodiversity and Conflict: Supporting Neurodivergent Clients in Transformative Mediation, with Samantha Hardy

Many of the clients we work with are neurodivergent, whether or not it is ever named. The way a person processes information, communicates, or responds under pressure can shape a conflict in ways that are easy to misread as bad faith or resistance.

This 90 minute interactive session looks at what neurodivergence is, how it shows up in conflict, and what it means for the transformative practitioner. Much of what supports neurodivergent clients is already built into the transformative framework. Party-led pace, no imposed outcome, and a focus on empowerment and recognition all serve these clients well, and this session shows where those strengths need conscious adaptation and where our usual moves can misfire.

You will leave with a clearer understanding of the double empathy problem, practical ways to support self-determination when a client processes or communicates differently, and a set of questions to carry into your own practice. The session runs as a workshop, with vignettes, small-group discussion, and time for questions.
